During the visioning process prior to the formation of the MOKANA® Family of Companies,
three distinct Principles were applied in deciding which products would be developed
and how the Companies would operate in regards to the type of environment in which
each team member would come to play in each day. We call the environment “The Sandbox”
– and learning to effectively and joyfully play in The Sandbox is a prerequisite
for each of the MOKANA® KIDZ to have.
These three principles are referred to as the Three Defining Principles or Rules
of the Company.
Rule Number One: Every relationship must be profitable!
Wow – now that may seem like a cold pragmatic rule, but is it really? Think about
it for a moment and recall the last time you were in a relationship that when you
exited it, you experienced a sense of “feeling less than” the person you were when
you entered it.
How does one establish a positive frame or tone in a relationship from the very
beginning? It occurs well before the very first meeting with another person. It
is an understanding and awareness of self and others that it is “the others’ that
make the world go round and round. Without others we cannot achieve our full potential
because each and every one of us brings a different skill set, talent and gift to
the table.
Can we all agree that no matter what interactions we have with those around us;
that interaction involves a relationship with another person who is in possession
of a unique set of senses and emotions and a view or model of the world not necessary
as unique as our own? We have more to gain in regards to knowledge and awareness
of the world around us if we choose – from the very beginning – to embrace the various
models of the world that surround each and every one of us.
If we have as a rule that every relationship must be profitable – not just for us
but for the person were are interacting with – then the foundation for long term
growth and prosperity is established. There is no truth to a winner take all mentality.
There is no long term profit in taking all that you can take from a relationship.
Whatever relationship we venture into as a company or as an individual, that relationship
must make us better as a company and as individuals.
Rule Number Two: What we do must to be fun!
Rule Number Three: What we do must to come easy!
Work is not work when the “thing” that you do you do as an outgrowth of the passion
that resides within your soul, a passion that serves as a strong wind that fans
the embers of a vision into the glowing steady fire of realism.
The “thing” that we do here at the MOKANA® COMPANIES is a reflection of two distinct
passions; the first passion being the profound desire to express the inner soul
through the art of written words and music, hence the MOKANA® GUITARS product line,
which includes several Electric and Acoustic Collections and accompanying Models,
and secondly, yet by no means in a diminished capacity, is the deeply rooted love
of the Hawai'ian Islands and the seas that caress and surround them.
